Dog Days - July 3 through August 11.
We've all heard the term "dog days" of summer and we know it's a really hot time of the year. But where did the term come from? Growing up as a kid, I thought that was the time when it was so hot that even the dogs were miserable. But there is actually a heavenly reason for the name. It's the time of year when the Dog Star, Sirius, rises with the sun.
Ancient folks thought that the combination of the bright sun and the bright star rising together produced the extreme heat; they also thought that it caused other catastrophes like plagues, droughts and the occasional madness. Can you say "Rabies"?
Dewey's Critter Care wants everyone to be sure and take good care of their pets and critters during this extra hot period. Bring them in if you need to and always provide fresh, cool water at all times. As a pet sitter, I always provide fresh water in the water bowl.
